The uses of tapes are extremely versatile. Whether for stabilization or immobilization – as it is often used for ankle injuries or for wrist- and finger-joint injuries – taping can also support a targeted reduction in pain and correct disorders of the musculoskeletal system (e.g. using taping for posture correction) while maintaining the freedom of movement. Classically, a distinction is made between sports tapes (= firm, stabilizing, inelastic) and kinesio tapes (Greek “kinesis” for “movement”), also called muscle- or physio tapes (highly elastic, breathable, stimulating the metabolism).
